Impetigo is a highly contagious, common superficial skin infection that mainly affects children and is caused by microbes called bacteria. The disease is usually caused by a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus. In cases where skin integrity is impaired, such as minor abrasions, bacteria easily multiply. It is more common in hot and humid weather. Among the factors that facilitate the occurrence of the disease are high temperature, excessive humidity, poor hygiene and skin trauma.
