During pregnancy, almost all women experience skin discoloration and spotting, albeit in different ways. This situation occurs more intensely in people with dark skin. It occurs as a result of increasing hormones during pregnancy stimulating cells called “melanocytes” that give the skin its color. It starts in the early stages of pregnancy, increases gradually and generally decreases significantly after birth or disappears completely. Browning in the nipple and its surroundings, armpit and genital area are the most common changes. The color of pre-existing scars and moles may also darken. A brown line called “linea nigra” may occur that extends from the belly button to the lower parts of the abdomen. A special stain opening enzymatic peeling system called “Dermamelan intimate” is applied in our hospital for staining the genital area after pregnancy. This method is a professional depigmentation method specially produced for spot problems in the genital area, perineum, perianal area, bikini area, inner thighs and groin. Dermamelan intimate is an effective enzymatic peeling method that suppresses pigmentation by reducing the amount of melanin in the skin, and it works by suppressing the mechanism that triggers the formation of spots on the skin. The main effect of this treatment is the suppression of an enzyme called ‘tyrosinase’, which plays an active role in the mechanism that causes the skin color to turn darker in certain areas. As a result of the suppression of this enzyme, melanin formation in the skin decreases and the darkened parts of the skin lighten. This treatment can be applied to all skin types, in all seasons. It does not create a wound on the skin, there is no healing process.
